Let the Journey Begin

Updated: Aug 30

Hello Again, It's me, Joseph and I'm on the move. As Labor Day peeks around the corner, many will prepare for all things pumpkin latte. Personally, I have about 4 mor

e weeks of summer planned on my schedule, but that's just me and one of my intentional choices. (#itsnotoveruntilitisover) I like to some extra time to breathe in the final breath of summer air.

In fact, taking a deep breath and a step back right now makes perfect sense.

In a world where racism continues to rear it's ugly head, where a fake president, attempting to get re-elected, consistently spews insults and fake news all during a pandemic that doesn't look like it will relent anytime soon, it would be so easy to get discouraged and to believe that everything is spinning out of control.

Don't you dare be discouraged, dear reader.

As we turn the corner and get ourselves on the back-to-school bus that is fall, (I'll get there eventually) and attempt to create some semblance of routine, let's make sure our backpacks have the right supplies:

Empathy: don't leave home without it. In fact, don't leave your neighborhood. Who do you know that you need to check on? We're in the same storm but we're not all in the same boat and some are weathering the waves much better than others. Somewhere, someone needs you.

Courage: As I've said before, we're going to have to raise our words not our voices, especially leading up to election day. (more on that in future blogs) #hillaryismypresident We need to participate in some very messy, long overdue conversations. We need to keep talking about what matters.

Respect: We're going to need a double dose of that. As we have these conversations, we're going to need to believe that we can disagree and still be friends or at least civil. We have to commit to listening. So many voices have yet to be heard.

Creativity: Covid 19 doesn't look like it's leaving anytime soon. In fact, there could be more waves to come. Rather than brace ourselves for the worst, we need to come up with more creative ways to keep socially distanced and safe. Explore more. Order take out and be about. (Somewhere, there's a picnic waiting to happen. ) Draw on your creativity to re-imagine your plans and to dwell in possibilities. Spontaneous fall holiday? Staycation to take a second look at your fair city? We've got you covered. #pineapplerocrentals

Hope: Everyday, in every way, we need to look for #signsofhope. A simple act of kindness: a door opened, a note sent, a pay-it-forward in the drive thru, can restore our faith in humanity. In fact, a literal sign or bumper sticker or flower blooming through a crack in the pavement can inspire us and refresh our perspective.

So, since we'll be travelling together into the next season, we'd love your help! Send us your #signsofhope pics or post them on your social media and tag our new PineappleRoc FB page (you did like it already, didn't you?) or our Instagram! Use #signsofhope. Stay tuned to our social media for more details about the #signsofhope challenge.

Filled with hope as the journey begins,

Joseph and Ricky
